The Basic Definition.
Air purifiers/cleaners are specially designed machine used to reduce indoor air pollutants ranging
from dusts to chemicals to gases.
With the number of asthma sufferers increasing in the last decade (to nearly 15 million in
America alone) and the number of death due to the disease almost doubling, air cleaners is a
fast alternative in improving air quality and in improving health.
Type And Design
Air cleaning devices vary widely in design, ways of operation, price and efficiency. Some
air cleaners can either be installed into the central heating, ventilation, and
air-conditioning system. Other air purifiers are designed to be movable (this site focus
more on such machines).
Air purifiers or cleaners would not eliminate air problems because it would not tackle the
source of the problem. For example, some allergens settle out of the air fairly rapidly and
are not always amenable to air cleaning. Opening your windows and having good ventilation
will not effectively remove such particles as well. Thus, to effectively eliminate indoor air pollution, eliminating the source of the pollution should always
be the first choice.
Having said that, we must also acknowledge that air purifiers are useful as an additional
method of reducing indoor air pollution.
Choosing the right machine is vital in making sure that the indoor pollutant level is
reduced and does not create any unwanted interference or side effects.
